Marine. Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Eyes sinistral (on the left side). Pelvic fin base longer on the eyed side and anterior on the body to that on the blind side. Pelvic and pectoral fin rays not branched. Pelvic fins lack a spine. Eggs with only a single oil globule (diagnostic character)
