Platies: Xiphophorus maculatus, variatus...
| Xiphophorus maculatus (Gunther 1866), the Platy
(Southern Platyfish to science). Originally from Central America; Mexico,
Belize. Many varieties; popular freshwater aquarium fish. To a bit over
two inches in length. Cond.s pH 7-8, dH 9-19, temp. 18-25 C. At
right, male and female in captivity. Many varieties/sports exist; long
finned, high dorsal, Mickey Mouse, twinbar, crescent... of many colors,
combinations. |
