Swordtails: Xiphophorus helleri

Xiphophorus helleri Heckel 1848, the (Green) Swordtail . North and Central America; Rio Nantla, Veracruz in Mexico to northwestern Honduras. Many varieties; popular freshwater aquarium fish. To 14 cm. in length. Cond.s pH 7-8, dH 9-19, temp. 25-27 C. Female and male of Black variety at right. Best kept in trios of one male to two (or more) females.
